Position Title: Forestry Technician (Lake Ranger) AmeriCorps Member - 480 or 680 HR

Position Summary:
The Idaho Panhandle National Forest, Priest Lake Ranger District is recruiting up to three, 480- or 680-Hour Forestry Technicians (Lake Ranger) beginning July - September/October 2025. Incumbents will perform a variety of work in support of the unit's recreation program at the fee-based recreation sites located on the Priest Lake. Work will largely be accomplished on motorized watercraft piloted by US Forest Service Personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties will include (25%) checking visitor use of recreation facilities, and (25%) monitoring compliance with recreation area rules and regulations of parking, campfires, sanitation, use of picnic sites, and/or boat launch sites. Additional duties include (50%) reporting violations to their supervisor, cleaning recreation areas and maintaining improvements, answering routine questions about recreational activities, constructing and/or maintaining trails, and performing other duties as assigned. The Forest Service manages 10+ campgrounds located on the water at Priest Lake include several island campgrounds (Bartoo and Kalispell Islands).

Duty/Housing Location:
Duties are performed out of the Priest Lake Ranger District Office located in Nordman, Idaho. Housing is available via the Forest Service bunkhouse apartments, but space is limited. Bunkhouse apartments are currently at $10.21 per day. They feature a furnished bedroom, a community bath and a cookhouse located in an adjacent building.
Terms of Employment:
One AmeriCorps member will complete a term of service (12 or 17-weeks), starting July through September/October 2025. The member must complete a minimum of 480 or 680 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours.
Program Benefits:
480 Hour - $7,680 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis and upon successful completion of program requirements, education award amount of $1,956.35.
680 Hour - $10,880 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis and upon successful completion of program requirements, education award amount of $2,817.14.
The position also includes a $500 gear reimbursement and a $1200 housing fund.
The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal background check.
