Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is re-opening its café! If you have experience in food service and beverage management and are looking for a role to serve the church, Good Shepherd is hiring its next Café Manager!
This position works alongside the staff and volunteers to support the Café Ministry and the other ministries at the Church. This position manages ongoing café operations and identifies, develops, and implements key strategic initiatives essential to continued café success. The Café Manager casts the vision and creates a welcoming environment for guests that serves high-quality, hand-crafted food and beverages.
Position Summary:
Job Location: This is an on-site position in central Naperville, IL.
Hours: This is a full-time 40 hours per week position. Hours include Sunday mornings 7:30 a.m .- 12:30 p.m. and one evening per week. The remaining hours are mornings or daytime.
Compensation: This is a full-time position with a base salary of $60k-$65K annually.

Good Shepherd Church is focused on serving the spiritual needs of our local community and on leveraging the time, talents and financial resources of people in this area to help others in our community, across the nation and around the world. Good Shepherd has over 20 employees and about 700 active members who attend congregation weekly. They also have over 15 different ministries to connect with members of the church ranging from children, teens, and adults as well as focused ministries such as grief support and mental health awareness. Responsibilities:
- Partners with church leadership in developing and managing the overall strategy of Café Ministry as it relates to the mission, vision, and core values of the church
- Manages all aspects of the operations of the café, ensuring the standards of excellence and cleanliness are met
- Oversees all financial responsibilities such as ordering and inventory cost controls, preparing and monitoring café budget, administering the monthly distribution of funds, managing invoice and reimbursement requests, approving purchases, reconciling monthly funds, and verifying all expenses are within the pre-established budget
- Recruits and manages volunteers including training, scheduling, mentoring, and appreciating volunteers
- Collaborates with the Communication Director to develop and execute communication strategy, marketing, and promotion activities for café to include text, mail, web, email, social media, frequency programs, incentives, and other tools to increase sales and traffic
- Manages café cash drawer and reserve funds and ensures weekly deposits of café cash sales according to Good Shepherd processes
- Maintains product pricing profiles and evolution of café food and drink menu offerings
- Takes and prepares orders; assists and directs staff and volunteers in preparing orders and cleaning and sanitizing work and seating areas
- Partners with other ministry leaders to plan hospitality needs for ministry events and lead volunteer teams in providing catering services for ministry events.
- Maintains preventive maintenance schedule for equipment and planned replacements
- Ensures high level of guest satisfaction through proper staffing, training, quality, and service
Requirements:
- 5+ years of Food Service and Beverage Management experience
- Completion of a Bachelor's degree is a plus, but not required
- 2+ years of supervisory experience
- Understanding and commitment to the mission and vision of Good Shepherd Church
- Ability to supervise, coach, build relationships, and resolve conflict
- Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles to maintain café financial information and develop and administer the budget
- Strong knowledge of cash handling procedures and reconciliation of reports
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to define clear, effective procedures to accomplish the full range of café operations
