Job Description

Why this job matters

The HR Manager's main job is to connect with both leaders and team members to help make the Medford resort a great place to work. Think of this role as part coach, part problem-solver, and part cheerleader for good people practices. You'll be a go-to resource for all things HR and may also lead and inspire a few awesome folks on the HR support team. This role is the primary HR support for Ko-Kwel Casino Medford, Margaritaville and Bear Creek Golf.

What you bring to the table

  • Make sure the space stays safe, clean, and friendly for both guests and the rest of the team; speak up and report any safety concerns to the Safety Committee.

  • Embody the resort's service standards in a way that leaves team members and guests telling their friends all about us.
  • Team up with department leaders to roll out HR programs in smart, creative ways that help everyone reach their goals.

  • Work closely with the HR crew in Coos Bay to keep things consistent and clear across locations-we're all one team.

  • Stay sharp on laws and policies that affect our people every day. Spot compliance gaps early and put thoughtful fixes into action.

  • Tackle all kinds of employee relations issues, big or small, with good judgment and calm in the moment. Keep key players in the loop.

  • Coach team members and managers to help them grow. Know when to give helpful feedback-and how to do it in a way that actually helps.

  • Lead and support HR team members assigned to you. Make sure they have the tools, training, and guidance to do their best work.

  • Handle unemployment claims like a pro-keep costs in check, help leaders prep for hearings, and represent the organization when needed.

  • Work with your team and the Engagement Committee to dream up fun and meaningful ways to celebrate staff-quarterly awards, holiday parties, appreciation events, and more.

  • Lead the Engagement Committee and help them bring their awesome ideas to life.

  • Deliver a new hire guidebook presentation that's helpful, engaging, and (yes!) even a little fun.

  • Make sure pay and employee changes are processed accurately and on time-either personally or by guiding the HR Specialist. Keep an eye out for pay equity, salary grades, and timely evaluations while you're at it.

  • Handle sensitive exit interviews with care and make sure paperwork is completed on time. Use what you learn to spot trends and suggest improvements.

  • Be confident using our HRIS system-and curious about how we can use it even better.

  • Pull standard or custom HRIS reports as needed and keep data flowing smoothly to the right people.

  • Compile and send out weekly reports on terms, transfers, and status changes-or delegate when needed.

  • Jump in where needed to support the team and keep things running smoothly. (Other duties as assigned)

Physical stuff to know

We've included the typical physical parts of the job here. If you need an accommodation to do the work, just let us know-we're here to support you.

You'll need to be flexible with your schedule-weekends, holidays, and evening shifts may be part of the job when things get busy. The work can involve a mix of sitting for long periods and moving around, plus using your hands for things like handling tools or equipment. It's also important to be able to stay cool under pressure, handle stressful situations calmly, and respond appropriately when others are upset or emotional.

This is a quick summary of the main duties and requirements-it might not cover everything you could be asked to do.

Must-haves, nice-to-haves, and maybe some bonus points

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.

  • A four-year degree in HR, Organizational Development, or something similar is preferred-but we'll also consider a mix of experience, education, and certifications like PHR, SCP, or THRP.

  • You'll need at least five years of HR management experience, covering a good range of areas like hiring, employee relations, HR systems, benefits, and leave programs.

  • A solid understanding of federal employment laws is important. An understanding of federal law in a tribal enterprise would be great.

  • You should be comfortable coaching others, leading discussions, and motivating your team-strong people skills are a must.

  • Being organized and detail-oriented will help you juggle tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Whether you're working on your own or with others, you should be able to get things done effectively.

  • Previous experience supervising others is a plus.

  • You should know your way around a computer, especially Microsoft Office (Excel skills are especially helpful).

  • You're an HRIS pro. Paylocity and Paycom is a big plus.

  • You should be professional in how you present yourself and feel confident communicating clearly-both one-on-one and with groups.

  • We're looking for someone who brings a strong work ethic and a friendly, approachable attitude.

  • You'll need to handle sensitive information with care and professionalism.

  • Experience in hospitality or a 24/7 environment is a bonus.

  • Familiarity with OSHA safety rules is great, but not required.

  • You'll need to pass a background check and comply with our drug-free workplace policies.

  • Friendly and approachable attitude that helps guests (and the team) feel welcome and cared for every day.

  • Comfortable communicating clearly and positively with both guests and teammates.
