**WORK SCHEDULE**

From basic screening tests to cutting-edge procedures, our state-of-the art equipment, skilled technologists and diverse, world-class academic radiologists deliver timely, accurate results.
All of UW Medicine's radiologists are board-certified and specialize in a variety of areas such as neuroradiology, body radiology, interventional radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography and chest radiology. Imaging findings are integrated with all clinical data to generate comprehensive and actionable patient assessments.
**PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**
Selects appropriate equipment and transducer for use in ultrasound setup, following exam specifications.
Explains the test to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient in positioning for the examination.
Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to the organ to be examined, the depth of field and other specifications of test.
Enters test data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.
Exercise independent judgment to tailor examination to acquire anatomic and pathophysiological data relative to patient's clinical presentation.
Produces images of internal organs and ensures data gets stored to PACS.
Obtains permanent record of internal examination by photographing images of organs shown on the display module or removing the strip printout.
Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.
Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.
Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction.
Has knowledge of UWMC's policies and the functions of other departments.
Provides care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
Perform examinations with appropriate documentation set out by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and UWMC protocols for each modality of diagnostic ultrasound.
Independently performs portable exams at the patient's bedside.
Perform calculations of exam data to determine physiologic parameters such as blood flow velocity, spectral analysis, color Doppler flow analysis, as well as embryonic/fetal development, gestational age, and fetal hemodynamics.
May provide needle guidance to radiologists and non-radiologists.
Document exam data and develop reports for physician review and finalization.
Triage emergent patients for daily schedule.
Maintains CME credits to obtain active status in the ARDMS.
Independently perform clinical diagnostic ultrasound examinations. This includes abdominal, gynecological, obstetrical, small parts, and intraoperative ultrasounds.
**REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**
- Completion of diagnostic ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) AND registered in abdominal and obstetrical ultrasound by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
- OR equivalent education/experience.
