**Job Description**
We are seeking a skilled Combo Welder with strong mechanical aptitude to perform high‑quality MIG and TIG welding and fabrication on heavy carbon steel components and pipe. You will work in a hands‑on industrial shop environment, producing structurally sound welds on thick plate and pipe while interpreting fabrication drawings and maintaining strict quality and safety standards.
**Responsibilities**
+ Perform MIG welding on carbon steel components, including structural welding with a 25/75 Argon and CO2 gas mixture on material up to 2 inches thick.
+ Perform TIG welding on carbon steel, pipe, and sheet metal, ensuring proper penetration, strength, and appearance.
+ Weld pipe up to 3/8 inch wall thickness using TIG root passes and MIG fill and cap techniques.
+ Set up and adjust welding equipment, including machines, gas flow, and filler materials, based on material type and job requirements.
+ Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and specifications to determine weld locations, sizes, and procedures.
+ Prepare joints properly, including beveling, fitting, tacking, and performing visual checks before welding.
+ Apply sound welding techniques to ensure welds meet structural, dimensional, and cosmetic standards.
+ Perform minor mechanical work such as aligning components, troubleshooting fitment issues, and assisting with assembly as needed.
+ Use hand tools, grinders, measuring tools, and fabrication equipment to prepare, weld, and finish parts to specification.
+ Inspect finished welds visually and with measuring tools to verify compliance with drawings, weld symbols, and quality requirements.
+ Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift.
+ Follow all safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment (PPE), and comply with company policies at all times.
**Essential Skills**
+ Proven experience as a Combination Welder with proficiency in both MIG and TIG processes.
+ Ability to perform structural MIG welding on carbon steel up to 2 inches thick with proper penetration and structural integrity.
+ Demonstrated pipe welding experience using TIG root and MIG cap techniques on pipe up to 3/8 inch wall thickness.
+ Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of how welded components fit and function in assemblies.
+ Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, shop prints, and weld symbols accurately.
+ Knowledge of proper welding procedures, joint design, and heat control for carbon steel.
+ Experience working with carbon steel materials; exposure to other alloys is a plus.
+ Proficiency using hand tools, grinders, measuring tools, and fabrication equipment in a shop environment.
+ Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to high‑quality workmanship.
+ Ability to work on your feet for most of the day, including walking and standing for extended periods.
+ Comfort working in an industrial shop environment that can be dirty and may include areas without air conditioning.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Welding certifications such as AWS or equivalent are preferred.
+ Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, or fabrication shop environments.
+ Familiarity with quality control standards, inspection processes, and weld testing requirements.
+ Ability to pass weld tests on both plate and pipe.
+ Experience fitting and welding 3/8 inch pipe using TIG root and MIG cap.
+ Comfort working overtime, including frequent Saturday shifts when available.
**Why Work Here?**
You will join a long‑established, employee‑owned organization that has been in business for over 100 years, offering the stability of a proven company with the mindset of shared ownership. The environment supports long‑term career growth, including opportunities to move into permanent roles and advance within a broader network of industrial operations. You will have access to a comprehensive benefits package that may include 401(k) matching, health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, paid time off, an employee assistance program, and a referral program. There is frequent opportunity for overtime, especially on Saturdays. The role is physically active, with approximately 90% of the day spent walking or standing. Some areas of the shop are not air‑conditioned, and the workspace can be dirty at times, so you should be comfortable working in a hands‑on, gritty industrial setting and getting your hands dirty. You will work with welding machines, fabrication tools, grinders, and measuring equipment while following safety procedures and using appropriate PPE.
