Desired Start Date Position End Date (if temporary) To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by 11:59pm (MT) on07/07/2025 Description of Work Unit The Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Neuroscience ( MCIN ) Program is an interdisciplinary research and education program at Colorado State University. MCIN is closely aligned administratively with the Department of Biomedical Sciences ( BMS ) within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences ( CVMBS ). MCIN is a Special Academic Unit ( SAU ), overseen by an Academic Oversight Committee including the Vice Provost for Graduate Affairs, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and the Deans of the Colleges of Natural Sciences and CVMBS . Over 30 faculty members in four colleges and ten different departments are members of MCIN . Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary study of how cells in the nervous system are specified, grow and connect to ultimately control all of the sensory input systems and motor behavior. Neuroscientists conduct research in a variety of systems from cultured neurons and tissues to intact organisms, including humans, to better understand the structure and function of neurons and the brain. Position Summary The Academic Success Coordinator plays a critical and supportive role in strengthening program efforts to provide quality advising and promote undergraduate student success. The primary functions are to foster successful transition to the university, engage in innovative and holistic approaches to providing students with strategies and resources for academic success, foster student engagement, assist with timely graduation, and participate in program/college initiatives related to student advising. The duties include advising approximately 200 students in the undergraduate program, supporting transitions, being proactive in outreach and interventions, developing academic plans, maintaining student records, participating in recruiting, orientation programs and retention efforts, serving as advisor for the Neuroscience Student Organization, supporting curriculum and instruction and assisting with the first-year seminar course. The Academic Success Coordinator will work closely with the Neuroscience Undergraduate Program Director and advisors/support coordinators within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences and the College of Natural Sciences. The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by the time of hire; the Biomedical Sciences department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. Required Job Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, psychology, biochemistry, or closely related field with three years of professional academic advising experience working directly with students in a higher education setting OR + Master's degree in Student affairs in Higher Education, neuroscience, psychology, biochemistry, or closely related field with one year of professional academic advising experience working directly with students in a higher education setting. AND + Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. + Demonstrated ability to do detailed work, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast paced work environment + The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by the time of hire; the Biomedical Sciences department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. Preferred Job Qualifications + Master's degree in neuroscience, psychology, biochemistry, or related field with three years of professional academic advising experience working directly with students in a higher education setting. Essential Duties Job Duty CategoryUndergraduate Academic Advising Duty/Responsibility + While working closely with the undergraduate program Director, provide support to program operations for the neuroscience undergraduate major including the following: + Maintain ongoing advising/mentoring relationship starting at first-year and transfer orientation continuing through graduation; identify best practices to implement a developmental advising approach. Provide advising for students seeking the major which includes holding group and/or individual advising sessions, fielding advising inquiries, and completing graduation contracts. + Assist with developing, maintaining, and updating recruiting and advising publications and undergraduate information both in print and on the web. + Participate in University orientation programs including Ram Orientation and Ram Welcome. + Participate in student recruitment efforts; meet with and advise prospective students and their guests. + Assist with undergraduate program communications projects which are directed at prospective students, current students, and alumni; may include use of social media. + Provide direct support for maintaining program records including admissions, enrollment, cohort composition, diversity, demographics, career outcomes, and alumni contacts. + Prepare internal and external reports. + Participate in program assessment initiatives. + Participate in proactive outreach and retention efforts consistent with those recommended by the University Collaborative for Student Achievement. -Utilize data to discern patterns of success/difficulty and design strategic interventions. + Review contracts for degree processing; prepare for college graduation ceremonies; and attend graduation ceremonies. + Assist with special projects as requested, such as developing and implementing advising workshops, report writing, participating in the first-year seminar, writing recommendation letters, and others as appropriate. + Engage in training and professional development opportunities.
