Job Description
Description Engagement Overview Our client, a product-based e-commerce business, is seeking an experienced Inventory & Procurement Consultant to stabilize and optimize their current inventory operations. This is a hands-on, project-based role focused on cleaning up inventory data, improving purchasing discipline, and establishing scalable processes to support growth and cash flow efficiency. The consultant will work cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and Operations to bring structure, visibility, and accuracy to inventory management across Shopify and Sage. Key Responsibilities + Conduct a comprehensive audit of all SKUs across Shopify and Sage to assess product performance, identify inactive/dead stock, and validate inventory accuracy + Reconcile inventory discrepancies between systems, ensuring alignment of quantities, valuation, and SKU mapping + Analyze sales velocity and product movement to distinguish core (always-on) vs. seasonal/limited-run SKUs + Partner with Sales and Marketing teams to define and validate core product assortment + Develop and implement inventory control frameworks, including: + Reorder points + Min/max inventory levels + Safety stock thresholds + Build structured purchasing and replenishment processes to reduce overbuying and excess inventory + Create demand forecasting models to support short- and long-term inventory planning + Establish differentiated buying strategies for core products vs. seasonal or promotional launches + Communicate directly with suppliers to optimize: + Lead times + Order quantities + Purchasing cadence + Identify process gaps and system inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions + Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support transition to a permanent hire Key Deliverables + Dead stock and excess inventory analysis report with liquidation recommendations + Defined Core SKU List with clear stocking strategy + Fully reconciled and aligned inventory data between Shopify and Sage + Inventory management SOPs and process documentation + 18-month purchasing and inventory planning calendar (including order timing and cash outflow visibility) + Forecasting model to guide ongoing procurement decisions Requirements Required Qualifications + 5+ years of experience in inventory planning, procurement, or supply chain within a retail, e-commerce, or product-based environment + Proven experience managing SKU-level analysis, inventory optimization, and purchasing strategy + Hands-on experience with Shopify and Sage (or similar ERP/inventory systems) + Strong analytical capabilities, including demand forecasting and inventory modeling + Experience reconciling inventory across multiple systems/platforms + Ability to translate data into actionable insights and operational improvements + Experience building inventory processes from a low-structure or reactive environment Preferred Qualifications + Background in high-SKU or fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environments + Experience with inventory cleanup, turnaround, or transformation projects + Familiarity with cash flow optimization and working capital management + Advanced Excel or data analysis skills (e.g., forecasting models, scenario planning) Robert Half is the world's first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
