Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Hawai'i Preparatory Academy seeks a dedicated, experienced, and collaborative teacher to join our Upper School Mathematics Department as a full-time math teacher. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, expertise, and a commitment to fostering student growth in mathematical understanding and problem-solving.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach two sections of Upper School mathematics, with a focus on Algebra 1 through Precalculus.
  • Design and implement engaging, student-centered lessons that promote critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and best teaching practices.
  • Support interdisciplinary learning and encourage project-based experiences where appropriate.
  • Serve as an advisor, mentor, and role model for students.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to departmental and school-wide initiatives.
  • Engage in all aspects of the residential school community, including coaching, club leadership, or other co-curricular activities.
  • Obtain and maintain proper licensure for driving a school vehicle as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
  • Strong mathematical content knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching high school students.
  • Ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching a range of high school mathematics courses.
  • Experience working with students from diverse mathematical backgrounds.
  • Experience designing and modifying curriculum to meet student needs.
  • Familiarity with mathematical educational apps and software.
  • Interest in coaching or leading extracurricular activities.
  • Ability to be trained to drive a CDL school bus.

Physical Demands

  • Be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
