Robert half is currently recruiting for a detail-oriented Payroll Staff Accountant to support core accounting and payroll operations for our client in Johnson City, Tennessee. This position is ideal for someone who can manage financial records accurately, process payroll across multiple states, and help maintain smooth month-end activities. The role offers the opportunity to contribute across several accounting functions while ensuring compliance and timely reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and record accounting entries to keep financial data accurate and up to date.
- Maintain general ledger activity and reconcile accounts to support reliable financial reporting.
- Process payroll for a workforce of 101 to 500 employees, including multi-state pay administration through ADP.
- Support accounts payable tasks by reviewing invoices, coordinating payments, and tracking outstanding obligations.
- Manage accounts receivable activities, including posting payments and monitoring customer balances.
- Assist with month-end close procedures by organizing supporting documentation and resolving account discrepancies.
- Review payroll and accounting transactions for accuracy, compliance, and proper coding before finalization.

Requirements - At least 3 years of experience in staff accounting, payroll, or a closely related finance role.
- Hands-on experience preparing journal entries and working within a general ledger environment.
- Practical knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Experience using ADP for payroll administration.
- Background processing multi-state payroll for an employee population ranging from 101 to 500 employees.
- Familiarity with month-end close activities and account reconciliations.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage confidential financial and payroll information responsibly.
