Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The primary function of the Prep Cook is to ensure Silver Diner menu items are prepped according to Silver Diner specifications and standards.

RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Work as part of a team, communicating clearly and constructively
  • Set up and maintain a clean, organized station, clean as you go
  • Count all prepped items checking for quality and proper rotation
  • Measure and assemble all ingredients and cook items according to specs
  • Prep assigned items following specs and according to prep list
  • Label, date, rotate and store all prepped items properly using FIFO (first in, first out)
  • Return bulk items to walk-cooler as you are prepping to keep food out of danger zone
  • Proper knowledge of operating each piece of equipment
  • Understand and adhere to all safety, sanitation, health and personal hygiene standards
  • Report necessary equipment repair and maintenance to KM

BRAND DELIVERY:

  • Be on time for work
  • Maintain a positive, fun-oriented attitude to your work
  • Keep yourself, your uniform and your work areas sparkling clean at all times
  • Strictly follow all uniform standards

COST BALANCING:

  • Handle kitchen equipment carefully to avoid breakage
  • Track any waste

  • Perform any additional duties or tasks as reasonably assigned by managers.

  • Adherence to recipes

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Silver Diner values education from on-the-job learning demonstrated through consistent career growth as well as formal education.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Prior is preferred but not required for this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work area includes: food, refrigeration, knives, toasters, syrup dispensers, plates/bowls, slippery floors, and, at times, high temperatures. It is a physically intense environment requiring stamina and the ability to tolerate heat, walk-in coolers, lift/maneuver boxes weighing up to 50 pounds, and stand/walk on hard surfaces for 10-12 hours per day. Able to continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, stoop, and wipe. Able to tolerate sanitizing chemicals.
