Assures appropriate level of understanding, awareness and compliance with all applicable Joint Commission, federal, state and agency laws, regulations, guidelines and professional standards. Provides high quality services at reasonable costs by managing programs, policies and procedures for all areas of responsibility. Monitors and ensures implementation of evidence-based clinical standards of nursing practice.  QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Nursing Required. Current Registered Nurse License in Nebraska or Iowa, Nebraska and Iowa are compact states, so license must be held in the state of your residence.  BLS certification is required upon hire. The Clinical Manager maintains clinical and management responsibility for the Air Care air ambulance transport service and the Communications Center. The Clinical Manager will utilize theoretical, experiential and general knowledge of Emergency medical Services, Air Care patient population and Communication Center guidelines when applying human resource management principles, financial management skills and material management skills. The Clinical Manager is responsible for the performance improvement program, competency based orientation program and the professional development plan for staff and self. The Clinical Manager utilizes Good Samaritan Hospital behavioral standards when communicating with internal and external customers and actively promotes and participates in service excellence and local and regional leadership activities. The Clinical Manager maintains clinical competencies in both the air ambulance and communications environments.

 


Responsibilities

 

Flight Nurse Manager

Location: Good Samaritan, Kearney, NE

 

  • Contributes to and implements a plan that coordinates educational goals and budgeted objectives of the facility, for the Patient Care Services division, Air Care and the Communications Center. Compares annual assessments of educational needs and coordinates with necessary departments to provide appropriate offerings.
  • Stays current on legislative issues that may impact the transport services in our region.
  • Pursues own growth and development through attendance at conferences and participation in educational opportunities on an ongoing basis.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in making decisions to facilitate staff development to achieve appropriate patient outcomes.
  • Provides a vision for Air Care and the Communications Center that is congruent with Good Samaritan Hospital’s strategic plans.
  • Develops and maintains policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines to reflect current practice and to meet legal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintains membership in appropriate organizations (AAMS, ASTNA, NEAAMS) and acts as a liaison between Air Care and these organizations both through regional participation and data collection.
  • Networks with other air medical services, program managers and chief flight nurses in the Nebraska region to promote open dialogue about related issues such as safety, communications and political affairs.
  • Supports and facilitates the Shared Governance model.
  • Manages and supports air medical and patient transport education to hospital personnel, EMS professional and the general public in the service region.

 Collaborates with departmental staff and the Director of Emergency Services to establish and maintain appropriate human and material resources.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Emergency Services and Air Care Medical Director, is responsible for interviewing, hiring, counseling, disciplinary actions, terminating and performance evaluation of staff.
  • Develops the Air Care and Communications Center staffing models and is responsible for appropriate current and future staffing levels for quality patient care and customer service needs.
  • Meets routinely with the medical director, Director of Emergency Services and the aircraft vendor to review patient transports and issues/concerns that require needed attention.
  • Identifies and plans for the department’s environmental and equipment needs.
  • Utilizes critical thinking/decision making skills to plan and select appropriate interventions for patient care that will result in the desired outcome, with consideration for appropriate utilization of human and material resources.
  • Maintains competency of equipment, procedures and assessments utilized in the delivery of care to the critically ill and injured patient.
  • Completes an annual departmental budget and demonstrates compliance through a monthly operations report

 

 


Qualifications

Bachelor's Nursing degree and a minimum of 3 years leadership experience.

Active Nebraska (or multi-state compact) Registered Nurse

Active Kansas Registered Nurse within 30 days of hire

BLS-ACLS-PALS-TNCC-NRP

ENPC within 6 months of hire

TNATC within 6 months of hire

EMT within one year of hire

Advanced Board Certification (CFRN) within two years of hire

Three years of critical care/emergency care

Three years of flight nursing

Knowledge of pre-hospital patient care and state regulatory requirements

Knowledge of national air ambulance and patient transport regulations and requirements

Knowledge of regional air ambulance communications standards
