Job Title Day Camp Counselor OR Sleepaway Camp Counselor Compensation Day Camp Counselor - $450/week Day Camp Lead Counselor - $550/week Sleepaway Camp Counselor -$325/week (housing and meals included) Sleepaway Camp Lead Counselor - $425/week (housing and meals included) Reports To: Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director Job Overview Day Camp Counselors are responsible for campers ages 5 to 16 at our adventure park at Historic Savage Mill! Each day staff arrive at 8:00 am to set up activities for the day. During the day, counselors are responsible for maintaining a safe/appropriate environment at camp. Staff will be asked to lead and participate with campers in activities like climbing, zip lining, high ropes, kayaking, river tubing, swimming, arts and crafts, environmental education, and more. Day camp staff will share the responsibility of our two-night overnight programs throughout the summer by rotating the groups and ages they work with each week. All staff should expect to be placed in an overnight camping program twice during our 10 weeks with campers. Our Sleepaway Camp Counselors will meet all of these job responsibilities at our sleepaway camp location in White Hall, MD where counselors will live-on site in cabins. Housing, Meals, and Laundry are provided for all sleepaway camp staff. Sleepaway camp will operate during the month of July weekly from Sunday-Friday. Responsibilities and Duties Plan, prepare, and lead activities for an assigned group of campers, daily. Perform first aid and respond in emergency situations, as needed. Lead rainy-day activities during thunderstorms or other severe weather events. Make camp a safe experience by monitoring camper behavior and adhering to all safety policies put in place by Terrapin Adventures. Provide a supportive and welcoming space for campers and staff of varying backgrounds and abilities. Monitor campers during all activities to ensure an emotionally safe, kind, and harmonious environment for all staff and campers. Engage with campers at all times when on duty. Assist in specialist areas like our archery range, natural water areas, or trip locations, under the direction of our trained specialists. Provide physical support on our aerial adventure course by assisting in the operation of our zip line, climbing tower, and high ropes courses. Help campers resolve conflict with patience and empathy. Sleepaway camp staff must be available from June 30th-July 30th from Sundays-Fridays. Day camp staff must be available for overnight camping or backpacking, as needed (typically twice per summer). Must be at least 18 years of age OR 17 and graduated from high school. Must hold an active First Aid and CPR certification during the summer. A federal, state, and child protective services background check must be passed prior to working with campers. Additionally, Camp Counselors must undergo the fingerprinting process. Past experience working with children is a plus.
