METEOROLOGIST - KMVT
Gray Television
Twin Falls ID, US
Twin Falls ID, US
About Gray Television: Gray Television is a leading media company that owns and operates high-quality stations in 113 television markets that collectively reach 36 percent of US television households.  We constantly strive for excellence. Through upgrading to the latest technology and seeking new ways to stay on top in our markets, we focus on training and development of the best and brightest employees in the business.  About KMVT: Twin Falls is home to Shoshone Falls, which is 45’ taller than Niagara Falls, and is only a ten minute drive from the television station.  The Perrine Bridge, which crosses over the Snake River, is the only man-made structure where BASE jumping is legal. This bridge is almost 500’ above the Snake River itself! Within an hour and a half drive of the station, you’ll find four ski mountains, the City of Rocks National Reserve, Craters of the Moon National Monument, 48’ tall Balanced Rock, the Shoshone Ice Caves, Bruneau Sand Dunes, Jackpot, Nevada and too many unique hiking trails to count!  If you are an outdoorsy person, I promise, you will not be bored!!!  Of course, you will find any big-time retail store that you would anywhere else around the country, as well as a growing downtown region that continues to add new local businesses/restaurants. Job Summary/Description: KMVT is looking for a morning meteorologist to add to the team! This candidate will produce a forecast for our morning show from 5:00 AM until 7:00 AM as well as our Noon show. In addition to putting together a forecast, this candidate will be responsible for social media posts pertaining to weather on all platforms. Southern Idaho is a very challenging area to forecast for!  The difference in elevation from the lowest point in the seven-county forecast area is over 9,000’ (from 2,700’ up to 12,000’!), which creates many micro-climates within itself. Mountain towns like Sun Valley have seen over 48” of snow within a 48-hour span and has also had snowfall as late as June 30th! There is another ski resort in a completely separate mountain range that averages 500” a year! If you prefer drier weather, Twin Falls itself averages less than a foot of precipitation annually, so there is something for everyone! From a temperature standpoint, July and August will feature triple digit heat thanks to southwesterly flow, while the middle of winter likely doesn’t get AS cold as you’d think Idaho would (lower 20s). 12-15 severe thunderstorm warnings are issued each year, with the occasional tornado warning. You WILL become a better meteorologist and forecaster here!  Aside from putting together a forecast, the candidate will be responsible for social media posts pertaining to weather on all platforms. Please note - the primary job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the information listed above  Qualifications/Requirements: - Degree in Meteorology desired- Professional experience desired, but not required- Knowledge of weather graphic systems, more specifically WSI MAX, desired If you feel you’re qualified and want to work with a great group of people go to https://gray.tv/careers#currentopenings, you may type in the job title, station call letters, or click on "apply now", upload your resume, cover letter, and references (Current employees who are interested in this position can apply through the Gray-TV UltiPro self-service portal) KMVT-TV/Gray Television, Inc. is a drug-free company Additional Info: Gray Television provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
